Cebuana Lhuillier Bank’s Digitized Banking Boosts Financial Inclusion in the Countryside

Cebuana Lhuillier Bank has been on a determined journey to improve its existing products and services through digital technology and to launch digital bank product innovations that make banking more affordable, more accessible and more convenient.

To meet the financial needs of remote and underserved communities, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank has augmented its digital banking efforts to help their account holders, called “Iponaryos,” in rural areas. The Micro Savings deposit account has four new features that transform it into an even more powerful and reliable full-service savings account.

These features include an unrivaled easy access to finances made possible by Cebuana Lhuillier Bank’s partnership with BancNet that allows Iponaryos to access their money through BancNet’s roster of 26,000 ATMs aside from Cebuana Lhuillier’s almost 3,500 branches nationwide. Aside from that, Iponaryos may also enjoy cashless payments made possible in partnership with UnionPay.

The third promising feature is full online access that “Iponaryos” can enjoy through the eCebuana Mobile App which allows convenient money transfers via Instapay, bills and utility payments. This mobile app is also yet to launch pawning ticket renewals and jewelry purchases. Through the said app, users can use QR Code which makes purchase and funds transfer transactions more seamless and secure.

Through these features, “Iponaryos” in rural areas can have full access to Cebuana Lhuillier Bank products and enjoy the same perks that other bank account holders enjoy, especially since they also have access to BancNet-accredited ATMs and POS. With that, users can make the most out of the convenience that comes with easy access to their accounts.

To support its digital banking innovations, the bank conducts “Iponaryo” campaign initiatives through Cebuana Lhuillier branches across the country and through Cebuana Lhuillier Bank’s social media sites.

Cebuana Lhuillier Bank President Dennis Valdes says: “While promoting digitized banking to rural folks is a challenge, we have successfully educated them of its benefits through our out-of-branch activities and Iponaryo financial literacy and wellness programs. We have also collaborated with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to educate unbanked and underserved Filipinos in remote areas with regard to the benefits that an affordable banking lifestyle can provide.”

Through its exclusive BrickTech strategy, an extensive and robust brick and mortar footprint expansion (BRICK), combined with the rapid integration of technological innovation to improve services and increase the range of products (TECH), Cebuana Lhuillier Bank is already playing a major role in the development of rural communities.

Cebuana Lhuillier Bank Vice-Chairman Jean Henri Lhuillier says: “With more than half of the Philippines’ population living in the countryside, CL Bank’s financial inclusion vision is far from being accomplished but very much underway. Our mission has never wavered. We will forge on until every Filipino is financially empowered.”
