Need some kitchen inspiration? This cookbook for a cause whips up simple, sweet, and savory flavors

Let’s admit it: we all run out of things to cook from time to time. And when it comes to cooking, there’s nothing like a beautiful and well-crafted cookbook to get that culinary creativity flowing in the right direction.

Simple, Sweet, Savory, a new cookbook published by Sketch Books, Inc., addresses this pain point and more. Not only is it an ensemble of delectable recipes from celebrated chefs and culinary enthusiasts, Simple, Sweet, Savory is the Assumption High School ‘98 batch’s way of giving back to their alma mater, with all proceeds from the cookbook going to the charitable endeavors of the Assumption community.

Among all the projects they could have ventured into to raise funds, creating a cookbook was the most obvious choice, if not the most joyful.

“Food holds a special place in people’s hearts, creating memories and connections. It brings people together: sharing cherished family recipes or traditions and celebrating the diversity of tastes and cultures within communities,” says Chris Yam Daez, Publisher and Project Lead of Simple, Sweet, Savory.

In the process of creating the book, the alumni group collaborated with esteemed chefs who graciously contributed some of their favorite recipes: Chef Robby Goco’s avo salata, Chef Gilbert Pangilinan’s baked salmon with parmesan, Chef Ginny Roces’ crepes, Chef Miko Aspiras’ oat milk ice cream, Spoon and Pork LA Chefs Raymond Yaptinchay and Jay Tugas’ adobo nigiri, among others – all easy-to-follow recipes that are as delicious as they impressive.

Along with recipes, the Simple, Sweet, Savory Cookbook is divided into sections like Starters, Snacks, Sides; Rice, Starch, Noodles; Poultry, Meat, and Seafood; Cakes, Pies, and Sweets to make organizing recipes easier and more systematic, essential for home cooks who often have to multitask in the kitchen.

As a bonus, the book also gives practical recommendations for menu planning created by Chef Sabrina Daez Guillaud-Rolin and hosting and entertaining guides from The Daily Butlery’s Sanj Licaros and Grace Baja of Taste by Grace Home. Simple and elegantly designed, this cookbook for a cause lets the mouthwatering dishes do all the talking.

“Our hope for this cookbook is that it becomes a tangible keepsake, a representation of how something as simple as cooking and sharing recipes can contribute to a greater cause,” Chris Daez shares.

If you’ve ever dreamed of whipping up sumptuous dishes for your friends and family, whether for entertaining or everyday meals, you’ll love poring through the pages of Simple, Sweet, Savory. Not only will this inspire you to cook your heart out, but also create a positive impact beyond your kitchen.
