UnionBank wins seven Quill awards for exemplary use of communications during pandemic

The International Association of Business Communicators Philippines (IABC) honored Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank)’s seven outstanding internal and external communication programs and projects during the 18th Philippine Quill Awards virtual awarding ceremony held on March 25 via YouTube.

UnionBank bagged six (6) Excellence Awards and one (1) Merit Award and was also nominated as Top Company of the Year. The Bank was cited for its exemplary use of communication in educating and equipping employees against COVID-19.

“No One Gets Left Behind,” an integrated internal communication program that provides COVID-19 information, work-from-home tips, and workplace safety communication for the employees and the target talents of the Bank through its internal and external communication channels.

“UnionBank Digital Heroes and Heroines Pay it Forward”, a partnership project between UnionBank, its thrift bank subsidiary CitySavings, Thames University and Edurescue. Twenty-five (25) employee volunteers stepped forward and took on the challenge of imparting the digital skills they have learned to build 800,000 Department of Education teachers’ digital capability.

“Future-proofing UnionBank’s Human Capital” is the collective effort of the UnionBank Human Resource Group anchored on the four pillars of well-being – physical, mental, financial, and social, and COVID-19 response.

“While Beyond Words: The Transformative Power of Communication” relates the strategic impact of communication in introducing the Agile and Digital Transformation to UnionBank that led to its successful adoption of emerging technologies and new ways of working.

“Future-proofing the Philippine Talent Pool” highlights the role of the UBP Xcellerator Program in teching up the Philippines by upskilling the workforce through training and education.

“UnionBank Uplifts: When Employees Go Beyond Altruism to Co-Create Innovations for a Better World”, a commemorative coffee table book that celebrates five years of GoBeyond Communities, UnionBank’s primary driver for employee-led CSR and volunteer programs.

UnionBank’s “Project Applause”, a broader and bolder approach to introducing digital banking and banking from home during the pandemic also received a Merit Award for Communication Management – Marketing, Advertising, and Brand Communication.

For almost two decades, the annual Philippine Quill Awards is the country’s most prestigious awards program in the field of business communications. This year, over 800 entries were subjected to International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) global standards that measure and determine the finest, the sharpest, and the brightest in the business communication industry.
