The DTI-Board of Investments Electronics Sectoral Working Group and the Export Marketing Bureau recently hosted a press briefing to discuss the Philippines’ strategic initiatives in the semiconductor industry, particularly in advancing integrated-circuit (IC) design. The event took place on July 17, 2024, at the BOI AVR, Penthouse, Industry and Investment Building in Makati City.
It was attended by officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), and the Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR).
Also present were representatives from industry associations such as the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (SEIPI) and the Electronics Industries Association of the Philippines Inc. (EIAPI), alongside key academic and industry stakeholders.

The briefing aimed to foster collaboration among government agencies and stakeholders in enhancing the semiconductor industry through initiatives focused on upskilling and career development. By 2028, a collaborative initiatives between the government and private sector aim to regain the High-Value Market Position and Reach Target of 128,000 Semiconductor Engineers and Technicians.
