Natural disasters are extreme, sudden events caused by environmental factors that result in significant damage to life, property, and ecosystems. Last June 3, 2024, at around 6:51 pm, the residents of the Pontevedra region in Negros Occidental faced such a disaster when Mount Kanlaon, a volcano that had been dormant for nearly two decades, erupted suddenly. The eruption unleashed a deluge of stones and sulfur on nearby villages, causing widespread destruction and leaving a significant impact on the area.
In response to this severe event, M Lhuillier, a renowned financial services company in the Philippines, with a strong commitment to community development and corporate social responsibility, mobilized an immediate action.
The group held an emergency meeting to devise and implement a comprehensive relief plan for the affected communities last June 4, 2024. Then a team of volunteers traveled to Barangay Zamora in Pontevedra, one of the hardest-hit areas. Collaborating closely with barangay officials and the local council, these volunteers provided essential aid to the 130 families and 336 individuals impacted by the eruption which happened the following day, June 5, at 9:30 am,
M Lhuillier team prepared grocery packages containing essential items such as rice, milk, biscuits, canned goods, noodles, and other necessities to meet immediate daily needs. More importantly, these packages provided hope and brought smiles to the faces of those affected, despite the many heart-wrenching experiences they have endured. The recipients expressed their deep gratitude for this support.
